In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
Sweet friends, how long has it been since you meditated on that? I can tell you its been a while for me. It’s been awhile since I have really let the pure majesty of the Lord affect my heart.
And I think that studying through Genesis is perfect for where we are in the world right now.
I’ll be honest guys, I’ve been scared. I have been scared of this virus and what it is doing to the world. I have been scared of the mass panic. I’ve been scared that the stores were running out of food and essentials. I’ve been scared of what this quarantine is going to do to my family, to my country. I have been scared of all the uncertainty.
But then I read Genesis 1:1, but I didn’t just read it, I paid attention to what it really says. I let it sink in that I serve the God that created everything. He created me, and this world and all the things in it. And while I know that, today I let it speak to my heart.
I serve the God that created the heavens and the earth, I serve the God that holds this whole world together in His hands. And when I sit for a moment in that quiet place with the Lord and I think of this, I am no longer afraid. Because my God is bigger than me, My God is stronger than this virus. And He promises me that He has plans for me, not to harm me but to prosper me (Jeremiah 29:11). He promises that as I walk through this dark world that He will protect and comfort me (Psalm 23). And He tells me not to worry (Matthew 6:25).
Friends it’s so hard, we are living through uncertain times. We are going through things that we haven’t seen before. But more so than ever this is a time to be peaceful in the storm. More so than ever this is a time to be a disciple. To be a picture of Christ. Because right now there are people more scared than us, there are people who don’t know that Genesis 1:1 is real. But we do. And we are called to show it. Not faking it, not feigning strength, no. We are called to show the peace that the Lord gives us, that we know this world was created by Him and that all things are according to His plan (Romans 8:28).
Its hard, but its easier when I remember Genesis 1:1
As always I pray for all of you, I pray that the Lord be with you during these trying times, that His spirit would move to comfort you and calm your anxiety. I pray that we could all be restful in knowing that He is in control. That He is the God of creation, the God of the universe, and our God. In His amazing, unending name, Amen!
